Walking the Watershed is a long-term, multidisciplinary project by artist and educator Lize Mogel that, since 2016, explores the physical, social, and political geographies of the watercourses, lands and communities that supply New York City with water.
Bus and audio tours visit sites in the Catskills (where 90% of the City’s water comes from) that speak to the landscape, history, and politics of NYC’s water system. The tours tell the stories of the watershed from multiple perspectives of the people who live and work in it, and manage it.
Workshops are for adult and youth audiences. Participants learn about the NYC water supply and how it connects NYC and upstate communities; and make a “human diagram” of the water system.
